The religious monuments in Wayanad have a history of thousands of years. Jain Temple at Puliyarmala and Glass Temple, Koottamundu are the evidence to the extinct Jain religious activities at Kerala. Varambetta Mosque, dating back 300 years, is one of the oldest mosques in Kerala.

Edakkal caves are the combination of 3 caves located at a height of 1000mtr of Ambukuthi mala near Ambalavayal is an another ancient monument that lights to the civilizations of new stone age that existed in the regions in the pre-historic time. The pictorial writings and paintings on the walls of this natural cave is attracting number of visitors to here. Ambukuthi Hill near here is also a fascinating Neolithic cave site. Muniyaras are also another monument that unearthed from this region are the ancient burial vaults. Remnants of Stone Age tools and pottery found within these cellars are displayed at the Wayanad Heritage Museum.
